Meet the Characters


She is confident, protective, helpful but also stubborn.  She loves squirting herself and Lou with water, using her trunk like a shower. She loves to eat bananas.



She is friendly, shy, smart, persuasive, and impatient. She loves to play and splash in water.  Jackfruit is her favourite.


He is calm, sensitive, kind, loyal, too strict, and serious sometimes. He loves to explore and sing when nobody is listening. His favourite food is wild celery.


He is bold, outgoing, imaginative, and a bit of a show-off at times. He loves anything salty.


She is confident and brave. She likes to play hide-and-seek. She can sometimes be a little in-your-face.


She is very curious and sensitive, loves evening snacks and having alone time, and doesn’t like loud noises. Her favourite meal is fruit salad.

The author, Kiana Sosa, did an amazing job describing the characters and their emotions. Definitely one of our favorite children’s books.

Kiana loves creating stories! Publishing a book was her dream, and with Ellie and Lou – The Meaning of Friendship, it became a reality. Her love for animals and her strong desire to share that love with other children inspired her books. She also hopes to inspire other kids, not only to read and write but also to overcome challenges, be persistent, take initiative, and pursue their dreams.

Born in Canada to Dominican parents, Kiana likes the beach and the mountains. She enjoys reading, movies, petting zoos, and spending time with family and friends. She lives with her family in Burnaby, BC, Canada.

Kiana is 11 years old.
